Asian Dub Foundation wouldn't be the socio-political agitators they are if their music didn't often make difficult listening. Enemy of the Enemy is a dark, claustrophobic, and at times harrowing beats and brimstone challenge to the social conscience, fuelled by domestic violence, misguided retribution and the fallout from globalisation and American foreign policy. True to form, Master D's ragga-rap rhetoric on "Fortress Europe" and "Blowback" is as insightful as it is rabid, hammered home by raging jungle and tablas, searing metallic guitars and sub-bass hum. The truly affecting moments come when they shift down the gears, working trademark Asian-dub into dank dragging laments. "2Faced" is a phenomenally eerie, Portishead-styled indictment of urban decay.
